WASHINGTON, DC: Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice-USA* (CAPP) and The Catholic University of America (CUA) jointly announce the 4th annual “Certificate Program in Catholic Social Teaching” from the 20th to 26th of September 2009 at the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center in Washington, DC.

This week long, graduate level investigation of the Church’s deep patrimony of social teaching is open to diocesan administrators/department directors, and their staff, in Religious Education, Catholic Charities, Catholic Conference, Social Justice, and other ministries. It is also open to clergy, religious, seminarians and lay leaders in philanthropy, business, the professions, and academia who to have an in-depth understanding of the Church’s social teachings from noted scholars, theologians, and professionals.

The certificate program promotes understanding and application of CST as developed and advanced by the magisterium over the past 116 years, starting with Rerum Novarum and emphasizing the Church’s current statement in Centesimus Annus. Special reference to Pope Benedict’s encyclical Deus caritas est and his upcoming social encyclical will also be included.

  • CST & the Developing World; CST & Free Market Economy

  • Consumerism & Alienation the Developed World Main Dysfunctions
  • CST a Pastoral Perspective.
  • In addition to facilitated discussions on the Three Cornerstones of CST, Discernment and Spirituality.

Retreat environment including Liturgy of the Hours, Daily Mass, and with personal tour of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Program costs include classes, workbook, all meals, and housing at the Washington Retreat House. Meals catered by Whole Foods Market, with a Friday night celebratory dinner hosted by the President of CUA. Transportation to and from program is not covered.
