Contemplative Prayer
Saturday, November 7, 2009 and Saturday, December 5, 2009
Do parishioners or men and women of faith ask you what is this centering prayer? Do they wonder how they could do it themselves? Is it just for monks and religious? How would I introduce them to the prayer of the heart or the prayer of the Quiet as St. Teresa of Avila called contemplative prayer? What is the connection of contemplation and compassion? How does it help my action?
We would like to invite you to two sessions as we explore the contemplative dimension of the gospel. We will answer the questions: what is contemplative prayer and how can I pray this way. In the tradition of the dessert Abbas and Amanas we will look at silence, solitude and service. The design of the workshop is to give you a model that you can share with others who are called to contemplative prayer.
Using the teachings of Father Thomas Keating, John of the Cross and our rich contemplative tradition we will share the prayer, practice the prayer and expand our experience of praying from the heart. We will also share the contemplative practices of Lectio, Welcoming Prayer, Prayer of Compassion and Prayer of Forgiveness. Come and see. Experience so you can share with the people of God and those who are seeking an intimate relationship with God.
Presenters: Deacon George and Paula Welch Cost: $35.00 for both sessions. Place: St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry Time: 9:30 AM Registration: Please e-mail the Office of Deacon Personnel indicating you will be attending. Tuition will be collected at the first session. Checks payable to St. Bernard's school of Theology and Ministry. palma@dor.org
